The City of Greater Sudbury Council has voted to significantly increase fees for its summer youth programs for the upcoming seasons. According to local reporting, fees for popular programs will rise substantially compared with current rates.
📈 What’s Changing?
• Camp Sudaca Day Camp: Weekly fees are increasing from $220 per week in 2025, to $272.50 per week in 2026, to $325 per week by 2027.
• Neighbourhood Playground Programs: These weekly activity programs are rising from $55 per week in 2025, to $102.50 per week in 2026, to $150 per week in 2027. ⸻
💡 Help with Costs: Child Care Subsidy Program
There are subsidy supports available through the City of Greater Sudbury that many families can apply for to help offset child care and some summer program fees:
🧾 What It Is
The Child Care Subsidy helps families with the cost of licensed child care and approved recreation programs, including day camps and summer care for children aged 4 – 12, provided eligibility requirements are met.
📌 Eligibility Basics
To qualify, families must:
• Live in Greater Sudbury.
• Have a confirmed space in a licensed child care or approved summer program.
• Provide recent income information and relevant documentation.
• Be working or attending school (exceptions may apply with medical or special needs referrals). There is no strict income cut-off — subsidy amounts are calculated based on income, and families earning under approximately $20,000 may be fully subsidized.
📍 How It Works
1. Apply for subsidy through the City’s Child Care Registry or by contacting Children Services. https://www.greatersudbury.ca/live/child-care-and-early-learning/for-parents-caregivers/child-care-subsidy/
2. If approved, the City pays a portion or all of your eligible child care or approved summer program fees.
3. Subsidy can be used toward City-run summer camps, YMCA day camps, Le Carrefour francophone day camps, and other approved programs. ⸻
Have Concerns?
If you have feedback or concerns about the fee changes, you can contact your City Councillor. A full list of councillors and contact info is available on the City’s website:
