I want to share an idea that was given to me concerning the homeless situation. We all know how bad it is out there so there’s no need to focus on that. But I was given an idea.

The idea comes from my former neighbour. He was from another city down south in Ontario. He was a serious hard drugs addict, and he moved here to get away from it all. He eventually quit while he was my neighbour, he still smoked cigarettes and drank alcohol, but he quit the hard stuff.

Each day was a battle for him, he would wake up and want to punch his own head in or bang it against the wall. Even after he was off the hard drugs for more than a year it was still difficult for him. He would always do what he could to help the homeless, give them money or food. Offer them encouragement.

One day we had a campfire and he said he had an idea for how to help the homeless. Every Sunday a bus comes downtown and these people have the option to hop on the bus. No questions asked. They would be taken to a secret location camp, where there are staff and security. They would cook and clean and basically learn to live again. Nothing luxurious. Sleeping on plain mattress in a barracks type of building, there’s a lunch room, and gardens outside, basically living off the land as much as possible. Chopping wood for the wood stove. 3 square meals a day. Devoted staff who love their jobs,

It’s an idea. And really how much would this cost? It’s definitely not in the millions, this is a low cost solution.

I could see my friend had spent many hours thinking about this. It’s the best idea I’ve ever heard regarding the homeless Crisis, and it came from a drug addict who knows what these people are experiencing.

Please share, and if you have ideas of your own please post them here.

There has been a discussion about this several months ago. It’s an ongoing issue with the downtown area.

I wonder whether or not the homeless would even want to change their life? Assuming they would, this idea seems to have merit.

The homeless issue was mentioned many times in my Podcast (Sudbury Interviews) as the answer to the daily segment question ‘What is one thing you feel would make Sudbury Greater’

I know homeless people staying at friends and relatives, and not on the streets, it’s bigger than what we see,

Listen people the goverment invites 5 million immigrants they need to build 3 million houses but you think they’re doing that no they are not that is the housing crisis and before you call me racist I’ll tell you that I am not this is basic supply and demand and the cause of high rents

Thank you tomtom but that is not helpful. We are not debating the causes of homelessness, we are looking for solutions? If we put many heads together I am sure we can find something meaningful.
